"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's WoW selection is...

's Pick:

Title: My Lady Jane
Author: Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton & Jodi Meadows
Series: n/a
Publisher: HarperTeen
Publication Date: June 7, 2016

For fans of The Princess Bride comes the comical, fantastical, romantical, (not) entirely true story of Lady Jane Grey.

Lady Jane Grey, sixteen, is about to be married to a total stranger—and caught up in an insidious plot to rob her cousin, King Edward, of his throne. But that’s the least of Jane’s problems. She’s about to become Queen of England. Like that could go wrong.

Mentioning The Princess Bride in the summary of any book will almost certainly guarantee that I will be picking it up. But I'm also on a huge historical fiction high right now -- and the more with humor and banter the better. So, this collaboration sounds all kinds of awesome and there is no doubt I will be grabbing a copy as soon as humanly possible.

Title: Wink Poppy Midnight
Author: April Genevieve Tucholke
Series: stand-alone
Publisher: Dial Books
Publication Date: March 22, 2016
Source: signed ARC via #booksfortrade
Purchase: Amazon | Barnes & Noble

Add to Goodreads
The intrigue of The Virgin Suicides and the "supernatural or not" question of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer coalesce in this young adult mystery, where nothing is quite as it seems, no one is quite who you think, and everything can change on a dime.

Every story needs a hero.
Every story needs a villain.
Every story needs a secret.

Wink is the odd, mysterious neighbor girl, wild red hair and freckles. Poppy is the blond bully and the beautiful, manipulative high school queen bee. Midnight is the sweet, uncertain boy caught between them. Wink. Poppy. Midnight. Two girls. One boy. Three voices that burst onto the page in short, sharp, bewitching chapters, and spiral swiftly and inexorably toward something terrible or tricky or tremendous.

What really happened?
Someone knows.
Someone is lying.

For fans of Holly Black, We Were Liars, and The Raven Boys, this mysterious tale full of intrigue, dread, beauty, and a whiff of something strange will leave you utterly entranced.

With each new April Genevieve Tucholke story I read, I grow more and more impressed with her uncanny ability to simply surprise me at every turn. True, this story features an unreliable narrator -- make that three -- but even so, I never saw that ending coming. And that's part of why I love the unreliable narrator so much. I consider myself pretty well-read, at least where the classics and YA are concerned, and that makes it all the more easy for me to find a plot tired and predictable. But the unreliable narrator really shakes things up. When you combine that with Tucholke's eerie style of writing, that sense of foreboding that never completely goes away, you're in for a very unexpected story.

I rarely have the time or opportunity to finish a book in a single day anymore, but that's exactly what I did while reading Wink Poppy Midnight. (Those are the three characters' names, by the way.) As I mentioned, I'm a huge fan of the unreliable narrator, especially when I forget that I'm not supposed to believe a damn word. Makes for a very intriguing story, one where I'm left guessing till the end.

In the beginning, I just wanted the bully to get their comeuppance, and it looked like that's where the story was headed. And then it took a strange turn, one that had me wondering just exactly who was the villain and who was the hero of this story. Especially with all of the constantly changing points of view and the short staccato chapters and the flashbacks. This book felt like it was written just to keep you confused, and I kind of loved that.

I honestly don't know if I know how to review a book like this without divulging too much. Because let's be honest...this is the type of book that it's best going into without any sort of expectations. It's a story of vengeance, of love, of hate, and everything in between. It shows us that in our truest nature, none of us is entirely a hero or a villain, but rather something in between, and we choose which way we lean.

There is no world in which I won't immediately devour and absolutely adore anything and everything April writes. I already want more of her delicious and scintillating words, want more of that feeling that nothing is as it seems. And this is why she is already one of my favorite authors.

GIF it to me straight:

So, since my end-of-the-week post isn't just about what I got in my mailbox or on my Kindle each week -- though that is a big part of it, I won't lie -- I decided to change up the title and intro a bit.  I might tweak the format a bit over the next few weeks, but for the most part, it'll contain the same stuff: stuff I got, stuff I did, and stuff that's coming up on the blog.  Plus, I get to use the awesome GIF you see here and blow kisses to all the people who sent me lovely books and bookish things.  Oh, and I've started linking up to Stacking the Shelves hosted by Tynga's Reviews since I'm not using a specific meme title anymore.  April's also doing her own Stacking the Shelves posts on Sundays.  Stop by and say hi!  =)
I know I'm probably voicing what everyone else is thinking right now, but how the hell is it already Christmas?!? I've been so busy this month that it's been hard to keep track of the days, but Christmas really snuck up on me this year. I'm forever a tragic mess around the holidays, mostly because I procrastinate so much. I'm still not done with my shopping, but I have the whole week off, so I'll get it done, even if I have to brave the mall to do it. o_O

But I do get a break. Since we hosted TWO Thanksgiving dinners, I don't have to host Christmas at all. We'll meet up with the family at some point, but nothing is on the books yet, and I kind of love that. Thanksgiving was SO stressful, so it'll be nice for Christmas to be chill and relaxing. And for us to have the whole day to just play with our new toys. :)

Anyway, here's what I scored this week...

From Publishers:

A lovely card from Big Honcho Media, an advance copy of Pearl from Skyscape/Amazon and a fabulous package from Scholastic with Titans goodies all arrived on my doorstep this week!

The Crown's Game (The Crown's Game, #1)This Savage Song (Monsters of Verity, #1)Ruined (Untitled, #1)The Way Back to YouThe Marked Girl (Marked Girl, #1)Girl Against the UniverseTraitor Angels

Um, so...yeah. That happened. I really tried to reign it in, but you know how hard it is when Harper uploads all those titles! But I bet you can guess which one I will absolutely be starting over Christmas break! =)

Things I Purchased:

Some goodies for my #otspsecretsister gals, but I can't show you those things yet. ;0)

Procured From the Library:

Alanna: The First Adventure (Song of the Lioness, #1)In the Hand of the Goddess (Song of the Lioness, #2)The Woman Who Rides Like a Man (Song of the Lioness, #3)

Dude, I am kicking myself for not reading these sooner. Even with so many friends who love this series, I just thought it wouldn't be for me, since the first book is considered MG. But I completely forgot about that as I got lost in the audiobook. I'm still waiting on the fourth audiobook to come in at the library, but I'll be starting The Woman Who Rides Like a Man very soon. Like, while I'm wrapping presents. =)

So, that's my haul. =) What fabulous bookmail did you get this week?

The Week in Review:

Promotional/Discussion Posts:

Currently Reading:

The Impostor Queen (Untitled, #1)I started this a little last week but got sucked into The Dark Days Club and didn't get back to it until now. I'm not very far into it, but I do remember that I just got to the part where THINGS are about to happen. Hope it's every bit as good as everyone is saying. What am I saying? I'm positive it will be because Sarah Fine is amazing.

Currently Listening:

The Woman Who Rides Like a Man (Song of the Lioness, #3)I was trying to decide what to listen to next while waiting on my hold for this book came through from the library when I received the email that it was available. Of course, I was out running errands with Katie so I couldn't download it just then, but you'd better believe it's on my phone now. :) After the ending of book two, I'm dying to know what happens next for Alanna. Plus, things were beginning to heat up between her and a certain prince…and between her and roguish thief. ;)

Upcoming Reviews:

Wink Poppy MidnightTheir Fractured Light (Starbound, #3)These Vicious MasksThe Dark Days Club (Lady Helen, #1)

This week's WoW selection is...

Title: Warrior Witch
Author: Danielle L. Jensen
Series: The Malediction Trilogy, book #3
Publisher: Angry Robot
Publication Date: May 3, 2016

Sometimes, one must become the unimaginable.

The witch is dead, the curse is broken, and the trolls are free of their mountain prison. Cécile and Tristan have accomplished all it was foretold they would, but their greatest challenge remains: defeating the evil they have unleashed. Because the trolls are not the only creatures now free to walk the world.

Enclosed within the safety of Trianon’s walls, Cécile and Tristan scramble for a way to protect the people of the Isle and liberate the trolls from their tyrant king. But Cécile and Tristan both have debts, and they will be forced to pay them at a cost far greater than they had ever imagined.

The thrilling conclusion to the breakout Malediction Trilogy by Goodreads Choice finalist Danielle L. Jensen.

I only discovered this series earlier this year, but I've practically devoured each book. Warrior Witch will be no different. Although Hidden Huntress was a little slow in places, I'm sure this final book in the trilogy will more than make up for it. Especially now that the trolls are free!
